With all the information that's out there on weight loss and exercise it's no wonder that many of us are struggling with where to begin. As a life long advocate of healthy living I have always believed that achieving results in the area of weight loss is truly a marriage between eating the right kinds of food at the right time and exercising in such a way that you are effectively targeting your specific weight loss goals.
By understanding how the kinds of foods you eat affects your body in conjunction with your exercise regimen will determine how successful you are in achieving your weight loss goals. I'm not going to tell you this is an easy task because it's not. You've got to WANT IT! Keep your diet simple and monitor how your body responds to your efforts. Believe me when I tell you that there is no better feeling than looking in the mirror and liking what you see. The sense of accomplishment is incredible! You are doing a good thing when you are good to your body, not to mention your mind.
So how to start? I firmly believe that what you put into your body makes all the difference. Your disposition can directly be a result of your diet! Start by understanding the relationship between carbohydrates, fats, proteins. I'm sure you've heard about the good, the bad and the ugly as it relates to these three components of your diet. They can be your friends if you use them effectively. You need to know that moderate amounts of carbohydrates are essential for energy before and after your workouts. Proteins build muscle and keep you feeling full. Healthy fats, like nuts and olive oil are actually good for your heart and mind. Oh, and don't forget fiber which also keeps you feeling full and keeps you regular. Once again eat smart, exercise smarter and you will get results.
Your workouts should be quick and high in intensity. Doing something is better than doing nothing at all. Mix up your routines, keep your body guessing, and stay focused. Your hard work will pay off. Understand what your best time of the day is for exercise. For some, mornings work well, others evenings. Just get some physical activity in everyday, even if it's a walk, but make it a brisk walk! And always keep your body fueled. By this I mean that after a workout feed your body with a combination of carbohydrates, say an apple with a protein like peanut butter.
In the end your body is one of your most important assets. Take care of it by understanding the marriage between diet, timing and exercise. It is one of the most important relationships you'll ever have.
